These 30mm and 40mm M48 extension tubes can be used to help achieve the correct spacing of a camera to e.g. focal reducer for example using M48 threads. Unlike the 5mm-15mm M48 extension tubes, these two fixed length spacers can also be used as M48/2″ nosepieces to be used with e.g. Baader diagonals or other M48 accessories. The 30mm extension has a 26mm insertion depth, with the 40mm having a 36mm depth. When used as a nosepiece, both have a 5mm optical height and feature Baader’s safery kerfs for additional grip and to minimise slippage.
These two adaptors complete the current Baader M40 extension tube “line up” and can be seen below.
Below is an example usage of the 30mm 2″ nosepiece/extension being used as a nosepiece on a Baader ClickLock diagonal.
Modern cameras are usually characterised by extremely short optical heights, in order to be able to be mounted on various telescope constructions. The old T-2 standard with 5mm thread depth is a hindrance to this. To take care of this new development, all new Baader T-2 and M48 parts are delivered with the new 3mm standard.
